GFK: We are a safe, non-contact gym for people who want to achieve complete fitness without taking the risk of getting hurt. We are designed to give you a prize fighter’s “look,” minus the black eye, bruised ribs or bloody nose. We are a rare “fringe” fitness community that emulate the techniques of professional boxers and kick boxers to deliver one of the most efficient, effective and rewarding approaches to fitness anywhere.
SW: What makes your business unique?
GFK: You have never, never, never seen a gym like this before! “The Gauntlet” is a true one-of-a-kind boxing and kickboxing facility offering group training of a maximum of 16 people per class. We are a safe, non-contact gym for people who want to achieve complete fitness without taking the risk of getting hurt.
SW: In this roller coaster of an economy, describe in one word the key to success.
SW: What is the funniest or wildest thing that has ever happened or you have found on your property?
GFK: A broken Jim Beam whiskey bottle in a fitness facility parking lot.
SW: Where would you like to see your business in three years?
GFK: Four locations in the Birmingham area with plans working toward a franchise.
SW: What do you enjoy most about your business?
GFK: We are working in the area of our passion, which is fitness with a kick.
SW: Any interesting company traditions?
GFK: At the end of each workout we always “Break it down” with a circle of clients who are sweaty and energized from a hour long workout and say, “3-2-1 GAUNTLET!”
